It’s the end of February, and that means I give you five updates about my writing, my life and what projects I want to undertake in the next 30 days. Enjoy and let me know if you have any questions.
- Etania is currently under the editor’s pen.
I received the feedback from my beta readers and editors so that I can now work on Etania, one page at a time. I am also reading Structuring Your Novel and Creating Character Arcs by K.M. Weiland. Both of these books probably should’ve been ones I read before starting to write, but now that my manuscript is finished, they can help me improve my writing.
2. Catherine Marshall is an awesome author.
I am currently reading The Helper by Catherine Marshall, and I’ve already read Something More by her. I’ve also watched the movie A Man Called Peter which was made with her influence. She is an inspirational Christian author who inspires me not only to write, but to live wholly for God. Most of her books are out of print, so you can only find her on used book store sites, and I’ve seen some retailers selling through Amazon.
3. Serving women is my new ministry.
I have always been involved in my church by helping out with the children during Sunday School or AWANA. But eventually I realized I didn’t care for the children like I used to and I’m not as passionate as I used to be. As I scrambled to find what that meant and where God wanted me to go, I realized I wanted to minister to women. God will guide me on what that means in particular as I seek His will.
4. I’ve entered a “guaranteed” publishing contest.
Most of the time I think of “guarantee” as something a slick salesman offers his customers. I tend to shy away from the phrase as a result. However, this writing contest is run by several companies I recognize and trust, so I’m willing to give it a try. It’s extremely nerve racking because the story is submitted, reviewed by strangers, and with their feedback, you write the final draft which is judged. You can win prizes, but even if you don’t win, you’ll have a story published in their magazine.
5. I’m considering starting a series on beautiful women.
I would like to interview women that I know and publicize their stories on this blog so that others can see what beauty really looks like. I’m even considering enlisting a friend to help me with photography. I would like to do this to encourage women to embrace the true definition of beauty, which is when someone takes care of themselves physically and has a wonderful personality/soul. I write more about Beauty in this post if you want more clarity.
